Beaming NFF’s Australian Farmers Platform into the Outback

Welcome aboard the #ThinkDigitalCoach.  This time ‘Rocky’ the 14-metre hi-tech mobile training facility was delivering a training session to local farmers on the new Australian Farmers Platform (www.farmers.org.au) in Alpha Queensland, during our visit to the ICPA Queensland State Conference.

Australian Farmers Platform Workshop

As part of the delivery, we beamed in Charlie Thomas, General Manager, Digital and Industry Partnerships from the National Farmers Federation (NFF) who introduced himself, then discussed the NFF’s commitment to Digital Strategy and Innovation, namely;

  1. Australian Farmers Platform
  2. Digital Agricultural Services
  3. Agtech Accelerator Program

He then discussed in more detail, the purpose of the Australian Farmers Platform, including its key features;

  1. Consolidating information sources into one place
  2. Creating an online community for the Farming Sector
  3. Give ourselves the tools for online campaigning

As part of the training session, participants were provided with a laptop that was connected online via Satellite Technology generously provided by URSYS and OPTUS.

They were each provided with a participant handout allowing us to tick off the following activities;

  1. Create a new account
  2. Customise their profile, including their newsfeed
  3. Map the weather
  4. Comment on blog posts
  5. Vote on a polls

The 1-hour hands-on training session was a success, providing the National Farmers’ Federation and their new digital platform www.farmers.org.au the opportunity to nurture and train new audiences from Outback Queensland onto the platform.

We now seek the support of potential partners to help roll out this type of unique face-to-face training program across Regional, Rural, and Remote Australia.

Imagine if we could visit specific locations, deliver some initial onboard face-to-face training on the “Australian Farmer Platform” then provide some ongoing online training once we leave. Let’s build a tribe of digitally engaged Australians everyone, and help bridge the digital divide.
